Publishing & limits
Your client must complete NIP-42 authentication using a whitelisted identity. Ordinary events must be signed by that identity. Gift wraps (kinds 1059 and 21059) may use random signing keys; uploads are authorized and rate-limited using the most recently authenticated whitelisted identity.
Each IP may send 100 messages in a rolling minute, shared across connections. Each authenticated author also has a shared allowance of 100 publish attempts per minute. People sharing an IP share its allowance.
Exceeding a limit starts a cooldown: 30 seconds → 1 minute → 2 minutes → 4 minutes → 8 minutes → 15 minutes. Further violations stay capped at 15 minutes. Penalties reset after 30 minutes without activity. Reconnecting does not reset a cooldown.
Reading is public, including encrypted events as stored. Clients remain responsible for encryption. Authentication events are never stored or broadcast.
Private messages use NIP-44 encryption inside NIP-59 gift wraps. Recipients decrypt messages in their clients. Recipient tags and encrypted envelopes are publicly readable; this relay does not require recipient authentication for reading. Ephemeral gift wraps are delivered live without being stored.
